Alta Rancho Pet and Bird Hospital is staffed daily by Dr. Reid Shufer and Dr. Kathy Henderson and serves the pets of Alta Loma, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Ontario, Claremont, Fontana, and the entire Inland Empire of California.
Dr. Reid Shufer
Dr. Shufer is the owner and Chief of Staff of Alta Rancho Pet & Bird Hospital. A native New Yorker, Dr. Shufer completed his veterinary degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 1984 with high honors. He went on to pursue a 13-month medical and surgical internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. From there, Dr. Shufer joined a large specialty practice (Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital) where he further honed his clinical skills. In the late ’80s, Dr. Shufer and his wife, Brenda, moved to San Diego, where he purchased and ran Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital. In 1993, the Shufers moved to Rancho Cucamonga to take over the reins of Alta Rancho Pet and Bird Hospital.
Dr. Shufer has many special interests within the veterinary field, including cardiology, ultrasonography, neurology, dermatology, dentistry and orthopedic and laser surgery.
The Shufers currently live in Claremont with their three cats: Sebastian, Mr. Mustachio, and Griffen. Dr. Shufer enjoys music, guitar, reading, theater, photography, biking, sailing, skiing and racquet sports in his time off.
Dr. Kathy Henderson
Dr. Kathy Henderson joined the staff of ARPH in the spring of 1998. She came to us from St. Louis where she was working as an associate at a multi-doctor small animal practice. Dr. Henderson graduated from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has an enthusiastic interest in all aspects of veterinary medicine with special interests in dentistry, pediatric and geriatric medicine and behavior.
In addition to her excellent clinical skills, Dr. Henderson is also a great manager. She has been doing a wonderful job managing the hospital since 2001.
Dr. Henderson lives in Alta Loma with her pets Envy Rose (long coated Akita), Peregrin (Turkish Van kitty) and Kevin (Ragdoll). She has an avid interest in dressage and practices her skills at a local barn. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, music, traveling and showing her dog Envy Rose who has recently been awarded AKC Rally-Advanced Excellent Title. She is only the sixth Akita to ever get this award! Recently, Dr. Henderson has added a beautiful Lipizzaner colt named Episolon to her family.

Alta Rancho Pet & Bird Hospital has a support staff averaging 12 people. They include receptionists, veterinary assistants and veterinary technicians.
Our staff undergoes extensive training to bring you the exceptional service that you desire and deserve. Each member of our team must study over 200 pages of information and complete many hours of instructional video, computerized testing and verbal evaluations.

Candice, Head Technician
Candice has been with Alta Rancho Pet Hospital for over 15 years! She has worked her way up from kennel attendant to Head Technician during that time.
Nicole, Front Office Manager
Nicole is celebrating 10 years of service at ARPH, and runs the front desk like a tight ship. We are happy to have her with us!
Richard, Receptionist and Technician
Richard has been with us for over 12 years, and now serves as a multifunctional employee, operating with equal alacrity in all departments.
Rachael, Receptionist and Technician
Rachael came all the way from Tufts University in Boston to join our staff several years ago. Since then, she has become cross-trained in both the reception and technical departments in the hospital.
Rachel, Veterinary Assistant
Rachel recently joined our staff as a veterinary assistant, in hopes of gaining admission to veterinary school.
Ramon, Veterinary Assistant
Ramon is a part-time veterinary assistant. He is a full-time student at Pomona College and hopes to go to veterinary school upon graduation.
